Poverty Simulation Worker/Performer at the Kansas Conference on Poverty

roles: Play the part of a teacher, a cop, a social worker or other community or civic leader.
requirements: Volunteers Must Be 18, able to think quickly, enjoying interacting with people, and able to sit continuously for 4 hours.
shifts:
The object of this simulation is to sensitize participants to the hardships faced by real people. Participants assume the roles of different families facing poverty. Some families are newly unemployed, some are recently deserted by the "breadwinner", some are homeless, while still others are senior citizens receiving Disability or Retirement or grandparents raising their grandchildren. The task of the participant "families" is to provide for basic necessities and shelter during the course of four 15-minute "weeks."

Volunteers will work the activitiy tables for the participants taking on the roles assigned.
